SDGsから学ぶ英単語③

　今回はSDGsの7～10の目標にまつわる英単語の意味や例文を確認していきます。ちょっとした英単語の知識についても述べていきます。

７．Affordable and Clean Energy(エネルギーをみんなに、そしてクリーンに)

・affordable

　「入手可能な」

　例文)

　This item is affordable price.

　　この商品はお手頃価格だ。

　Television became widely affordable in the late 1950s.

　　1950年代後半にテレビは幅広く手に入るようになった。

・energy

　「気力」「元気」「力」「勢い」「行動力」「能力」「エネルギー」

　例文)

　We have to discover alternative energy sources.

　　私たちは代替エネルギー源を見つけなければならない。

　She has no energy today.

　　今日の彼女は元気がない。

　

８．Decent Work and Economic Growth(働きがいも経済成長も)

・decent

　「きちんとした」「ちゃんとした」「見苦しくない」「親切な」「適切な」「(服装が)ちゃんとしている」

　例文)

　Are you decent?

　　ちゃんとした服を着ていますか？(見られても恥ずかしくない格好ですか？)

　He is a decent person.

　　彼は感じのいい人だ。

・economic

　「経済(上)の」「経済学の」「実利的な」

　例文)

　People constantly pursue economic growth.

　　人々は絶えず経済成長を追い求める。　

　The country is in an economic slump.

　　その国は不景気である(悪い経済状態にある)。

　※名詞の語尾に「-ic」を付けると、「～的」「～の」という意味の英単語になる。

　　名詞 ＋ 「-ic」→ 形容詞

　　例) academy(学術団体) ＋ 「-ic」→ academic(学術的な、学校の)

　　　　base(基本) ＋ 「-ic」→ basic(基本的な、基本の)

・growth

　「成長」「発育」「発展」「発達」「増加」「拡張」「伸び」

　例文)

　Industrial growth and population growth are closely related.

　　産業の発達と人口の増加は密接な関係がある。

　I bought grapes of foreign growth.

　　私は外国産のぶどうを買った。

※動詞や形容詞の語尾に「th」を付けると名詞になる。

　動詞・形容詞 ＋ 「-th」→ 名詞

　例) wide(広い) ＋ 「-th」→ width(広さ、幅)

　　 strong(強い) ＋ 「-th」→ strength(強さ)

９．Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure(産業と技術革新の基盤をつくろう)

・industry

　「産業」「工業」「製造業」「～業」

　例文)

　What industry types suits me well?

　　私に向いている業種は何だろう？

　I am interested in the film industry.

　　私は映画界に興味がある。

・innovation

　「革新」「刷新」「新しく採り入れたもの」「新制度」

　例文)

　Technological innovation is expected.

　　技術革新が期待される。

　I want to achieve the innovation with the potential to solve global warming.

　　私は、地球温暖化を解決する可能性のある革新を成し遂げたい。

※動詞の語尾に「-tion」を付けると、状態・動作・結果を意味する名詞になる。

　動詞 ＋ 「-tion」→ 名詞

　例) inform(知らせる) ＋ 「-tion」→ information(情報)

　　 add(追加する) ＋ 「-tion」→ addition(追加)

・infrastructure

　「基盤」「(国家や社会に必要不可欠な)基本的施設」「インフラストラクチャー」「下部組織」

　例文)

　Infrastructure building is one of the most important tasks of the state.

　　インフラ整備は国家の最も重要な仕事の一つである。

　Road is the infrastructure critical to the economic development.

　　道路は、経済発展のために欠かせないインフラである。

　

10．Reduced Inequalities(人や国の不平等をなくそう)

・reduce

　「減らす」「縮める」「縮小する」「切り詰める」「下げる」

　例文)

　I reduced my food by half to lose weight.

　　体重を落とす(ダイエットする)ために私は食事を半分に減らした。

　What should I do to reduce my anxiety?

　　不安を軽減するためには私はどうしたらいいのか？

・inequality

　「不平等」「不公平」「不平等なこと」「起伏」「(表面の)ざらざら」「不同」

　例文)

　She takes part in the movement to do away with sexual inequality.

　　彼女は、性的差別をなくすための運動に参加している。

　Inequalities in wealth should be eliminated as soon as possible.

　　富の不均衡(不平等)を一刻も早く解消するべきである。

※単語の頭に「in-」を付けると、否定の意味になる。

　例)「in-」 ＋ correct(正確な、正しい) → incorrect(不正確な、間違った)

　　 「in-」 ＋ formal(公式の) → informal(非公式の)
